ISO 04B-1 Sprocket

The ISO 04B-1 sprocket (6×2.8 mm pitch, DIN 8187) bridges the gap between miniature and standard industrial drives, ideal for light automation, robotics, and precision instruments. With C45 steel construction, induction-hardened tooth flanks (HRC 50–60), and a full range from Z=8 to Z=125, it resolves premature tooth wear and chain skipping in compact, high-cycle equipment.

Features & Advantages

Compact 6 mm Pitch
Enables tighter centre distances than 8 mm or 9.525 mm pitch variants, perfect for space-constrained machine designs.
Grade 6 Machining Accuracy
CNC hobbing to DIN 8190 Grade 6 ensures smooth chain engagement even at elevated RPM and under reversing loads.
Dual-Strand Duplex Option
04B-2 duplex sprocket doubles torque capacity in the same shaft space — ideal for step-up applications on compact gearbox outputs.
Global Standard Compliance
Certified to ISO 606, DIN 8187, and BS/JIS equivalent for seamless integration with imported European or Japanese equipment.

Compatibility & Selection

Designed for ISO 04B-1 roller chain (pitch 6.000 mm, inner width 2.80 mm, roller Φ 4.0 mm). Bore options: pilot bore (as-cast), stock bore, or custom finished bore with keyway. Shaft range 6–32 mm. Browse our full ISO sprocket range or request a selection guide from our team.

Material & Process

Material: C45 medium-carbon steel. Heat treatment: Tooth-flank induction hardening — surface HRC 50–60, core 28–34 HRC. Deformation: ≤0.05 mm post-quench, corrected by precision grinding where required. Surface options: Black oxide (standard), dacromet, zinc-nickel, or stainless on request.

FAQ

►  Is the ISO 04B-1 sprocket the same as the ANSI #25 sprocket?
No. ISO 04B-1 has a 6.000 mm pitch, while ANSI #25 has a 6.350 mm pitch (1/4 inch). They are not interchangeable — always verify the chain pitch before ordering.
►  Can I use a 04B-2 (duplex) sprocket with a simplex chain?
No. Duplex chain must be used with duplex sprockets. Mixing strand counts will cause the chain to ride incorrectly on the sprocket teeth and will result in rapid wear or chain jumping.
►  What is the maximum shaft diameter for a 04B-1 Z=10 sprocket?
A standard Z=10 stock bore is typically 12–18 mm depending on the hub style. Custom finished bores are available to your specified diameter with 5–7 day lead time.
►  Do you supply platewheels (flat plate type) for 04B?
Yes. ISO 04B-1 platewheels (without hub, suitable for welding to shafts or discs) are available in our range. Contact our sales team for dimensions and pricing.
►  What lubrication is recommended for 04B drives?
For speeds below 100 rpm, manual brush lubrication with ISO VG 68–100 oil. Above 100 rpm, drip lubrication or bath lubrication is preferred. For sealed or food applications, use NSF H1 approved grease.

Installation & Maintenance

  1. Confirm shaft and bore dimensions; clean contact surfaces with solvent.
  2. Align mating sprockets within 0.5° angular misalignment and 1 mm lateral offset.
  3. Set chain tension with 2% sag on the slack side relative to centre distance.
  4. Torque set-screws to the manufacturer specification stamped on the hub.
  5. Check alignment and tension after 4 hours of initial operation.
