Roller Chain Flexible Coupling
Two coupling sprockets and a length of double-strand (duplex) roller chain form a compact flexible coupling that tolerates angular misalignment up to 1° and parallel offset up to 0.5 mm.
Shock-Load Absorption
The roller chain element absorbs shock and vibration between motor and load — protecting gearboxes, pumps, and driven machines from torque spikes common in start-stop operations.

Chain coupling disassembly requires only disconnecting the roller chain link — no alignment tools or heat required. Chain replacement restores full coupling performance without disturbing shaft alignment.
High Torque Capacity
Double-strand roller chain wraps two tooth profiles simultaneously, providing significantly higher torque capacity per unit diameter than jaw or disc couplings of equivalent size.

Both coupling sprockets must have the same tooth count. The most common tooth counts are 9, 10, 11, and 12. More teeth = smoother operation but larger coupling diameter.
► What chain do I use with coupling sprockets?
Roller chain coupling assemblies use a length of double-strand (duplex) roller chain in the appropriate pitch. The chain pitch must match the sprocket pitch exactly.
► How much misalignment can a roller chain coupling tolerate?
Typically ±1° angular misalignment and ±0.5 mm parallel offset at the rated torque. Misalignment beyond these limits increases chain and sprocket wear significantly.

- Finish-bore both coupling sprockets to the respective shaft diameters; cut keyways to drawing.
- Mount sprockets on their respective shafts; align shafts using a dial indicator — target less than 0.1 mm TIR on coupling hub face.
- Wrap the duplex roller chain around both sprockets and close with a connecting link.
- Install the chain coupling housing (cover) if required for guard compliance or lubrication retention.
- Verify shaft alignment monthly during the first 3 months of operation and re-check after any unexpected load or vibration event.
