Piñones para tractores
From compact vineyard tractors to 400 hp broadacre row-crop machines, tractor chain drives are used to power PTO-driven implements, hydraulic pump auxiliary drives, cab-air-conditioning compressor drives, and front-axle engagement systems. The tractor sprocket in these applications must withstand sustained power transmission, seasonal exposure to dust, moisture and chemical fertilisers, and the shock loads of implement engagement. Descripción general
Australian tractor chain-drive applications span a wide power range — from 12 kW compact utility tractors (CUT) to 300 kW+ broadacre tractors. The most common tractor chain drive applications are:
• Front axle engagement chain: Transfers torque from the gearbox to the front axle differential on MFWD tractors.
• PTO gearbox internal chain: Transmits drive from main shaft to 540 / 1000 rpm PTO output shaft.
• Auxiliary hydraulic pump drive chain: On high-flow hydraulic systems, a dedicated roller chain drives the supplemental pump from the engine crankshaft.
• Implement drive: Some trailed implements use tractor-mounted chains to drive auxiliary functions such as spreader aprons or seed meter drives.

Performance Advantages
HRC 50–60 Induction HardeningTooth flanks hardened to HRC 50–60 resist the abrasive wear from dust and grit contamination common in broadacre farming environments, delivering 2–3× longer service life than unhardened alternatives.
Cold-Start ResistantC45 steel with a tough core (HRC 28–35) maintains ductility at −30°C — critical for reliable engagement of front-axle and PTO drives during cold Australian winter starts in southern grain-belt regions.
Shock-Load CapabilityImplement engagement loads can spike to 5× rated torque in the first revolution. Our induction-hardened tooth flanks with a tough core absorb these shock loads without tooth fracture.
Taper-Bushed for Seasonal ChangeQD taper-bushed tractor sprockets allow seasonal changeover for different implement drives without specialised tools — a 20-minute job at the farm workshop rather than a full bearing-press operation.
How Tractor Chain Drives Work
In the tractor PTO gearbox, an input shaft (driven from the main engine clutch or an independent PTO clutch) carries the primary driver sprocket. The roller chain transmits torque to the driven sprocket on the PTO output shaft, which exits the rear of the tractor at the standardised SAE 6-spline or 1-3/8" 6-spline coupling. The gear ratio between the two sprockets determines whether the PTO output is 540 rpm (at nominal engine speed) or 1000 rpm (economy PTO). The chain must transmit continuous torque equivalent to the tractor’s full power rating through this single drive path.

Selection Guide
Installation Steps for Tractor Sprockets
- Drain gearbox oil if replacing an internal PTO sprocket, or remove implement drive guard for external applications.
- Lock out tractor: park brake on, engine off, PTO disengaged, disconnect battery ground for electronic PTO tractors.
- Retire el piñón desgastado.: loosen set-screw (or retaining nut for keyed PTO sprockets) and slide off shaft. For stuck sprockets, use a two-jaw puller — do not use a hammer against the shaft.
- Inspect shaft and keyway for wear, fretting, or burr damage. Clean with emery cloth and degrease.
- Install new sprocket: align keyway, slide on, torque fastener to specification (refer to tractor service manual for torque values — typically 35–65 Nm for PTO sprocket retaining nuts).
- Verify alignment with mating sprocket using a precision straight-edge across tooth faces — target ≤0.5 mm lateral offset. For gearbox internal sprockets, verify chain tension on reassembly per service manual specification.
- Replace chain if worn >2% — fitting a new sprocket on a worn chain (or vice versa) causes rapid accelerated wear. Always replace as a set.
- Refill gearbox oil to specified level. Run tractor at low idle for 5 minutes and check for leaks and unusual noise before field operation.
Troubleshooting Tractor Chain Drive Sprockets
| Síntoma | Causa probable | Acción recomendada |
|---|---|---|
| PTO engagement shock & jerk | Worn teeth causing chain jump at engagement | Replace sprocket and chain; check PTO clutch pack |
| Chain noise at operating speed | Worn teeth, misalignment, or insufficient lubrication | Inspect tooth profile; lubricate; realign sprockets |
| Front-axle engagement vibration | Worn or damaged front-axle engagement sprocket | Replace 40Cr alloy steel sprocket & chain set |
| Sprocket loosening on PTO shaft | Keyway wear or insufficient retaining torque | Replace sprocket; apply thread-lock; retorque to spec |
| Rapid chain elongation (<seasonal service) | Soft or unhardened sprocket teeth | Upgrade to HRC 50–60 induction-hardened sprocket |
